Creative Play: Living Kites

Japanese beetles are into the neighbor's fig tree, making a feast of ripening fruit, and thrilled my boys when they made that discovery this morning. Some beetles were promptly captured and turned into beetle kites.

(A flying beetle is not the easiest thing to focus on!)

The boys enjoyed flying their kites until either the string slipped out of their grip or the beetle exhausted itself and was let free.

Who needs toys?
